Ella Watson |
Ella Watson is a painter/sculptor/curator/social practice artist living in Bozeman, MT. She has been working with cold wax for almost 20 years and loves the versatile, textural quality of the material. Generally, she lays at least 5 - 7 layers of wax and oil paint until she forgets the order of colors, and then shaves away at the canvas with clay tools in a fantastic moment of rediscovery. She uses the shavings in her Thumbprint Series: 4 x 6 inch assemblages (photo right) that are gorgeous, yet affordable. Ella is originally from Virginia and received two BFA's from Virginia Commonwealth University. She is an emerging curator and recently organized the virtual exhibition Seeing Purple/ Seeing Red . Ella has shown nationally and internationally; is the author of Liverwurst (an anthology of work she created while waiting for a liver transplant, available on Amazon); is the Secretary of the Board for SLAM. |
