Sandra Wright Sutherland began her art career at the University of Michigan with a BFA in Drawing and Painting. Fate lead Sandra to a career as a teacher of the deaf, accompanied by vocational training in graphic arts. Meanwhile, she exhibited her photos of bicycle races that found their way into books. The first book that was illustrated with her photos was Bicycle Training for the Triathlete *and Others with World Road Champion, Audrey McElmury, and her Pan Am team husband, Michael Levonas. Next came NO BRAKES! Bicycle Track Racing in the United States, Rainbow Quest: A Biography of Audrey McElmury, and Handsling: The Sequel to Breaking Away. |

Today, Sandra has turned her many years of photographing bicycle races on the velodrome into paintings. Her paintings depict the shapes and colors of this thrilling Olympic sport that she alone can see.
According to Sandra, "(I am) Entering the wonderful world of Bozeman art! This year, I’ve exhibited at the Bozeman Public Library, Wild Crumb Bakery, the SLAM Story Mansion event, and was interviewed by SLAM. Looking for other opportunities."
